On 10 June, the main shipping channel of the Port of Baltimore fully reopened following the March collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge after being struck by a vessel.
The Baltimore port is integral part of the shipping trade, as it handles more cars and farm equipment than any other port in the U.S.
Following the removal of bridge debris and the Dali containership that struck the bridge, The Key Bridge Response Unified Command team has certified that the riverbed is now safe for transit. The group said, “With the channel now fully open, we can get more Marylanders back to work at the Port of Baltimore, increase the flow of commerce through the city, and accelerate our economic recovery… but our work is not over until we rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge.”
